[this post was originally titled "A Must Have for Soldiers in Heat" and then I realized it sounded like I was about to post something porn-related so I’ve changed it. hahaha]
Sorry this isn’t a crafting post (I’m out of town so not at my sewing machine, but I do have some fabrics to show you soon). I just wanted to mention that the same company I mentioned in my previous post has now come out with a cooling thingamajig for the newer helmets. All soldiers now have either new kevlar or retro-fitted kevlar (kevlar is the helmet) and this new thingamajig is designed just for it. It keeps their heads cool. The heat seems to be the single-most distracting thing J. has had to deal with on this deployment (for civilians who may not be aware, there is no AC in the Humvee – can you imagine wearing all that gear and NO AC in 100+ degree heat?!). It has made him absolutely miserable on convoys ("I don’t know how it’s possible that my brain isn’t actually boiling."). So, if you know a soldier who is complaining of convoys and patrols in extreme heat, this is the item to buy. I have heard many raves about these cooling items making all the difference.
