Let the two year old cook.

So I found it.  Something my two-year-old can help me “cook.”  It only takes a tall stool and a few minutes, so it’s perfect for him.  (and in case it’s not obvious, these are courtesy my Iphone)

First, I let him stir the naked noodles.  (yes, my counter always looks that organized)

And squeeeeeze the gooey cheese product.  (we aim for “healthy” but settle for “easy” sometimes)

And stir again.  And it was at this point that I had to keep him from eating straight from the serving bowl and move him on to helping get the plates (conveniently located where anyone over a foot tall can reach – in a lower cupboard.  I’m one part Intentional Parent and one part Lazy Parent).

Sidenote: this is Cam being “resourceful” and “independent” instead of asking for a snack.  They’re supposed to ask permission.  But I think they prefer to beg forgiveness.  And because it’s kind of adorable, sometimes it works.

seemed like a good idea at the time. (rocky mount, nc, family photographers)

Every photographer (heck, every Mom) knows that two is a challenging age to photograph.  So many things to explore and a complete mind of their own.  So when Mei and I attended a field trip to a local strawberry patch and had a brilliant idea to do her family session there, we just. weren’t. thinking.  I’m not sure why we thought it would be a good idea to photograph TWO two-year old boys and their sister in a wide-open field full of RED FOOD to get a first-ever family photo (and in bright sun, no less).

Chasing.  Crouching.  Trying to hold their attention.  There were no tricks in the pocket for this one.  We just did our best and had fun with it.

It was by the grace of God that we eeked out this one great family shot:

And several other treasures:

One of the most expressive little guys I’ve come across in a while.  Just a happy, joy-full kid.  Let’s start with a storyboard of sorts.  Ollie.  Raising those hands (we’re in the South, after all). It was puzzling, but tickled us.

This is Ollie eating a wooden crate.  No, really, he had splinters in his mouth:

I call this compilation: GimmeYourCamera-HaddaBadDay-BabyBubble:

Seriously, though, the baby is beautiful.

…and LOVED and adored.

Jenna - Thank you for such a fun session and for capturing such beautiful photos of Ollie! I will treasure that day and these images always!

Kaitlyn! Class of 2012 (rocky mount, nc, senior photographers)

It’s that time of year.  The time of year when I’m reminded that it won’t be too long before my own kids are wrapping up their time at home and getting excited to set sail.

Congratulations, Kaitlyn!  Almost there.

As most people know, I’m a sucker for sisters.  It always – always – makes me happy to see sisters who so obviously treasure and enjoy each other.  What a treat that they were there together for her session.
